four periods a day is beneficial for students because it’s lets them focus
on less classes and have less homework to do. For example, in the
article, “Block Schedule: Good or Bad?,” George Markowitz
explains, “The teen brain is not capable of retaining too much
information at one time” (par 7). The scientific evidence proves that
teenagers can do better in school when they can study fewer subjects
at one time. Having longer periods also lets the students understand
the material better because they get to practice it for over an hour. In
the six period day, each class is less than an hour. Less classes means
less homework, so students can also do extracurricular activities like
sports or music. Some people believe that the 6 period day will help with the
budget cuts in schools. According to, Mike Donovan from the California
Times News, “Most schools cannot afford a block schedule because
it requires them to employ more teachers” (par 2). This may be true,
however, students’ education is more important than the money.
